Over the last 3 weeks, Shapinsay Primary School has been receiving Tag Rugby from ORFC MA Mark Sinclair. It was a very active 3 weeks with lots of activity but also to learn new skills and rules of the game.
The P1-3s were first each week from 10:15am – 10:45, so the session was quick and involved lots of fun activity games such as stuck in the mud, sharks & fishes, Tag Bulldogs etc. Everyone loved the rugby and it was great to see a smile on all the kids faces while the sessions were taking place.

A couple of the participants said:
P1 boy – “I love rugby!”
P2 girl – “I want more Tag rugby!”
It was great to hear these positive comments from the pupils at the end of the last week.
P3 boy – “I had so much fun!”
Finally was the P4-7s who once again, being the more experienced age group were able to increase the standard. I was able to bring in much more complex exercises to the group such as 6 cone grids, shuttle passing, ball skills and many more games/activities where the group had to think hard. Once again the group did not fail and stepped up to a very high standard.
The older group said:
P5 girl – “I learned lots more rules”
P6 boy – “I’m so tired but that was so fun!”
Mark Sinclair said:
“The whole school did exceptionally well and I feel this was down to the enthusiasm of all kids who were keen/willing to learn and take part in the things I was doing.
Over the last 3 weeks I saw a massive increase in skill level and knowledge of the game for each group due to everyone trying hard.
It was a pleasure to coach the group and I look forward to heading out to the island again in the future. Well done to all!”
