The home team started the first half playing into the wind, with both teams playing attractive rugby chances occurred at both ends being repelled by some strong tackling defence.
The visitors opened the scoring with a penalty after 15 minutes. This set back urged the home side to increase the tempo resulting in the team’s Captain Glen Brough forcing his way over for a forwards try. As half time approached back row player Ruairidh Mackay broke clear to score another try leaving interval score at 10-3.
The second half was played at a fast pace with Ellon fighting hard to get back into the game and the home side trying to increase the advantage resulting in an entertaining game for spectators. Despite some close shaves no further scoring came giving Orkney /Caithness a 10-3 victory and a Shield Final in St Andrews on the 29th of April.
Unfortunately during the second half Rhys Davies received a serious injury resulting in him having to be taken to hospital. It transpired that he had broken his leg; we all wish him a speedy recovery.
