Caledonia U18 League Falkirk RFC - Saturday September 16, 2017 Falkirk U18s 5, Orkney / Caithness U18s 41 The Orkney under 18 squad travelled down to Falkirk meeting up with the Caithness contingent of the team to play a Caledonian League game against Falkirk RFC. The game commenced with both sides showing good commitment with neither team gaining the upper hand. After 10 minutes winger Michael McGregor broke the deadlock with a try the conversion being missed. This score gave the visitors the confidence to play some attacking rugby leading to a second try by forward Ruardh McGregor; Glen Scott kicked the conversion giving a 12 point lead. The Orkney/ Caithness team where now on top and after a powerful 50 meter run Jack McLeod scored increased the score with a further try. This was followed by a period of pressure from the hosts putting the Orkney/Caithness defence under some pressure and strong talking managed to keep the try line in tacked. Leading up to the break the visitors managed a further two tries by Michael McGregor and Rhys Davies both being converted by Stuart Kirk giving a 31 point lead at half time.
The visitors started the second half over confident and a sloppy defensive error allowed the Falkirk side to score a unconverted try. This was followed by a period of midfield play with no further score before Nathan Quinn and Craig Kennedy both scored tries. Due to injuries to Falkirk players the final ten minutes was played as a development game, during this period Rhys Davies scored a further two tries but this did not affect the score this was recorded as 41-5. This was a good effort by the combined team showing that playing together was improving the performance and they could look forward to the remainder of the season with confidence. L.H.
