Orkney started strongly keeping the ball showing good pods and with good support play. Caithness had a scrum on their 5metre line, but squint feed gave a penalty to Orkney, A quick tap from Owen Spence and a pass to Taylor Gibson and he was over with Thorfinn Thomson converting.
From the restart Orkney were straight on the attack again keeping the green in their own half and infer pressure. Thorfinn Thomson got the ball from Michael McGee with a lovely, weighted kick across the pitch to Asthon Bruce who touched down. Again, from the restart Orkney were keen to keep the pressure on and give Caithness no time on the ball. The guys were playing as a team with good support to the player making a break. Jack Innes made good yards (after seeing his fellow centre doing the same) Jack Innes passed to Thorfinn Thomson allowing him to do a wee juggle before scoring a try and converting. Zander Baillie was chasing well keeping the pressure on Caithness who when were near their try line, Orkney’s scramble defence worked well. Tom Hamilton next to score with a run up the left starting from his own half and evading 4 tackles, Thorfinn Thomson adding the two points from a sublime conversion. Jack Doyle was making good inroads to the Caithness defence who were struggling to stay on side and the result penalty was a quick tap and dot down by Owen Spence and converted by Thorfinn Thomson. Caithness were still giving Orkney problems but were unable to cross the whitewash. A combination of strong defence and slight mistakes allowed Orkney off the hook, who again worked their way up the pitch with strong runs, good supporting play, good hands which led to the ball landing in Jack Innes hands who jinked and darted over the line with Thorfinn Thomson converting making it 40-0 at half time. Finlay Daintith had made good play for his first match on the starting team. He came off and Magnus Montgomery went on. Owen Spence moved to number 8, Lewis Moncrieff moved to front row and Scott Sinclair moved to flanker. Thorfinn Thomson converted a penalty for consistent offside. Taylor Gibson got his second try of the day after the ball going through the hand and very strong running. Ashton Bruce also got his second try with hardly a hand being laid on him and Thorfinn Thomson converting. Even with changes in personnel there was no let up in Lewis Moncrieff still carrying hard. Jamie Milne making some lovely tackles and both Jamie Milne and Joe Thomson passing slickly to Zander Baillie which allowed him to smashthrough 3 defenders and score. A wee lapse in concentration let Caithness into score from close range but Orkney were to have the last say in the game with good driving play up the left where Scott Sinclair picked up from a metre out and dived over with Zander Baillie converting to a loud cheer from the home crowd. Final score 69-5. To a Man/Boy the whole team worked so hard and never stopped speaking, never stopped supporting, never stopped running and it showed I the result. The whole squad today were outstanding each and every player played outstanding all working together as a team and making very happy coaches. Thank you to Caithness for travelling over, to Glen McLellan for Reffing, to Ellie and Isla for the food in the club afterwards.
